Chapter 296 - 295: Taking down the legendary

With the power dynamics shifted and both Pokémon now closer in overall strength, Latios held a clear advantage. Deoxys still floated in its attack Form, but it seemed confused, trying to process why its attack power had dropped so suddenly and why its opponent felt stronger than before.Gladion saw the opening and took full advantage of it. "Now!" he called out.

Latios and Latias attacked together. Latios fired a powerful Psybeam straight at Deoxys. A beam that was more than fifty percent stronger of what he was capable before.

The alien Pokémon responded with its own Psybeam. The two psychic beams collided in the middle with a loud crack. Bright purple energy sparked and pushed against each other.

With Latios's increased strength from the earlier Power Split, his beam slowly pushed forward. The exchange lasted only a few seconds before Latios's Psybeam broke through with Latias supported him by adding her own psybeam from the side.

It struck Deoxys directly, forcing the alien back several meters through the air.

The impact made Deoxys spin once before it regained control. It shook its head, clearly surprised by the force.

Deoxys recovered quickly and tried to counter with a fast Psyshock. The invisible wave of psychic force rushed toward Latios. But Latias was already there. She created a protective barrier that absorbed most of the hit. The remaining force pushed her back only slightly. She smiled at Latios. "Together. Let us show him what real coordination looks like."

Latios nodded. The two legendary dragons moved in perfect sync, one attacking while the other defended or supported.

Their combined psychic power pressed Deoxys harder with every exchange. The alien kept changing positions rapidly, but the sandstorm limited its speed. It could not escape the constant pressure.

'Sadly Latias can't use Power Split but someone else can,' Gladion thought with a smirk. He decided to make the fight more interesting and a lot more frustrating for Deoxys.

Gladion looked at his Umbreon, who had already used her signature Copycat move on Latios earlier. "Nyx, it's time for you to shine."

Nyx grinned widely, her red eyes shining with excitement. Psychic energy suddenly covered her body and also wrapped around Deoxys.

The alien looked confused at the very familiar feeling it was getting. Nyx had used the Copycat move to copy Power Split when Latios had used it. And now was using it against Deoxys who was already suffering from one power split.

The current 150 power level of Deoxys was split with Nyx's 50 power level. Now Nyx had 100 power while Deoxys dropped further to 100.

Gladion raised his hand and shouted, "Dark Pulse!"

A massive sphere of dark energy began to gather around Nyx's mouth. It grew quickly, becoming bigger than a ten-meter ball. The dark energy swirled and crackled with power, feeding off Nyx's boosted strength from the Power Split.

Deoxys, still recovering from the previous attacks, tried to counter immediately. It raised one hand and fired a Psyshock, sending it straight toward the incoming attack.

The psychic move collided with the massive Dark Pulse in the middle of the battlefield. For a brief second, the two forces pushed against each other.

But Deoxys had miscalculated badly. Its strength was not what it used to be after the Power Split. The psychic attack started to lose ground almost right away. The Dark type moves overwhelmed the psychic type move.

The dark energy continued its path without slowing down. It slammed directly into Deoxys's body with full force. The impact engulfed the alien Pokémon in a massive explosion.

When the explosion finally cleared, Deoxys was left floating unsteadily. Its body showed fresh damage. Cracks ran across its smooth surface, and it looked visibly weaker. The alien shook its head, trying to regain balance after the heavy hit. Nyx laughed loudly from her position, clearly enjoying the result of her powerful attack.

[Is this what absolute strength feels like? Muhahaha! I will now dominate the world. I have become the goddess of death with this new power-up. Bow before me, tiny space germ! I am Nyx, the Queen of Shadows, the Bringer of Eternal Night! Just like that one anime villain who got a power boost and started monologuing for ten minutes straight. Remember? That is me now! I will cover this entire mountain in darkness and make everyone call me Supreme Overlord Nyx! Muahaha!]

She spun in the air, [Oh, the power! It is rushing through me like that time the hero got the super serum and suddenly could lift card. Except I am the villain in this story. I will tie up every legendary I meet and make them apologize for existing in my presence. Zeus will cry when he sees what I can do now. Even Guy will have to admit I am the strongest youthful Pokemon! I am unstoppable! I am—"

"Focus, Nyx," Gladion said firmly, though a small smile tugged at his lips.

Latios appeared next to Deoxys with a quick teleport and unleashed Dragon Breath. The blue flames hit the alien directly. Another explosion rocked the area. When the smoke cleared, Deoxys appeared a lot more injured but still standing and it showed why he was a legendary Pokemon.

Deoxys had no choice. It shifted back into its Defense Form. Its body thickened again, becoming bulkier and more solid.

Sadly for Deoxys, Power Split only affected the Attack stat. Its defense was still very high. But Gladion and his team had the clear advantage of numbers.

They bombarded Deoxys without mercy. Colossus fired a hyperbeam, Ultron fired a Flash Cannon that lit up the entire mountainside. Nyx followed with a massive Dark Pulse. Latios and Latias both used Psyshock at the same time. Craggy slashed with his sharp blades, sending cutting Air Slashes toward the barrier.

The psychic barrier around Deoxys's Defense Form held for a moment, glowing brightly under the pressure. Then it started to crack. More and more lines appeared across its surface. The combined attacks from a number of powerful Pokémon including two legendaries were simply too much.

The barrier finally buckled and shattered with a loud crack. The remaining energy from all the moves hit Deoxys directly. The alien cried out in pain as it was pushed back hard. Its body spun in the air before it lost height.

Deoxys fell from the sky. It shifted back to its normal form as it dropped. It landed hard on the rocky ground and lay there unconscious. Dust rose around its motionless body. The sandstorm slowly began to die down as Colossus stopped maintaining it.

Gladion looked at the fallen Deoxys and thought quietly, 'That went better than my last battle with a legendary Pokémon.'
