Chapter 2380: No. 3, the Hot Commodity

Chapter 2380: No. 3, the Hot Commodity

However, what they didn’t expect was that as soon as they reached the staircase entrance, several props came flying down in quick succession. The round-faced player at the front sensed danger and tried to dodge, but it was too late. He was hit and knocked back along with his defensive barrier. Immediately, a soap bubble-like transparent film swiftly covered them from above the staircase, pressing against the corridor walls and doors, trapping all three inside!Hua Sisi turned back and waved her hand. Several button-shaped props stuck to the film and instantly burst the bubble. The attack from above the stairs was too fierce, sealing their path completely before anyone even came down, leaving them no choice but to turn around and take another route.

The floors of the Fish Banquet Building expand as you go higher, and this floor has more than just two staircases.

"Split up!" the round-faced player shouted. "If you spot a Pocket Door glowing a faint orange-yellow, hide inside. It’s safe!"

The room where the Girl in the painting was located was actually on this floor, but opening the door from outside might not lead to the same room once inside, so the three of them didn’t consider going in. Instead, they dispersed as they reached the other end, each choosing a direction.

However, to their surprise, all the passages up and down the floor were sealed off, even the elevators were guarded. These guards had their own tasks; while they could attack, they wouldn’t stray far from their posts, leaving no gaps for Xu Huo and the others. After going in a circle, the three regrouped.

"Who are these people, and what are they trying to do?" Hua Sisi’s face was grim. To arrange so many people to block them, the opponent must not be simple, especially since they were ambushed right after the Mermaid Game ended, indicating it was definitely someone from the gaming table.

"Could it have been a contact inside the Fish Banquet Building?" the round-faced player asked. "That would be bad. If someone on the inside got ahold of our identities, we might manage to escape this time, but if we don’t, they’ll mark us forever! The only way to change our appearance is to escape!"

Whatever the case, it was clear things weren’t going to end smoothly. Seeing a blockade trap them at the corridor’s corner, Xu Huo stopped Hua Sisi from attacking and raised his voice, "So even sore losers will try to recover their chips afterwards, it seems Fish Banquet Building’s reputation is oversold."

There were staff from the Fish Banquet Building on this floor. However, whether they were waiters or security guards, they stood quietly in place, heads down, as if trying to erase their presence.

As soon as Xu Huo finished speaking, a man’s voice laughed heartily, "Don’t misunderstand, I’ve never taken back what I’ve lost, let alone some props and instruments that aren’t worth much."

A young man, who looked about twenty-five or twenty-six, approached Xu Huo, surrounded by several players. Even maintaining a distance of over ten meters, several defensive barriers stood between them.

This remarkably handsome man quickly glanced at Xu Huo. "I didn’t expect No. 3 to be so young. Which Wormhole Point are you from?"

Xu Huo didn’t answer but instead responded somewhat tersely, "What do you want?"

No. 6 patted the player in front of him aside, signaling for him to make way. Speaking kindly, he said, "What happened at the gaming table stays there. Off the table, it’s a different story. The Perfect Potion in your hand interests me. I’m willing to offer twice the chips from the gaming table to trade with you."

Xu Huo raised his eyebrows slightly, "You sure it’s genuine?"

"Of course not," No. 6 replied. "But a gamble is a gamble, whether on or off the table. At worst, I consider it a loss."

"However, to protect the interests of both parties, I need a small sample of the potion for identification. Indeed, it would be very little, whether or not it’s genuine, any losses will be on me..."

Before he finished, someone else approached from the other side.

An elderly gentleman in a white suit, who interrupted No. 6, led the way, "Old Yu, you’re still so insincere, pretending to be young and fooling the younger generation."

No. 6’s expression turned cold, "I can’t compete with you in deceit."

No. 1’s smile remained as he turned to Xu Huo with an unthreatening geniality, even overly gentle, "Young man, I too can purchase the potion from you at twice the price, and there’s no need for inspection. After all, a gamble’s a gamble, and I can afford to lose."

The last remark was clearly a jab at No. 6, but he said, "Regardless of whether the potion is genuine or not, I assure no trouble will follow afterwards; you can’t say the same. Over the years, you’ve sabotaged many players who joined me, despite promising to respect their choices and not interfere with their freedom."

No. 1’s smile didn’t fade, "I haven’t troubled you for poaching them, yet you’re making it hard for me now. Who’s really narrow-minded?"

Their antagonism was evident, but they weren’t inclined to bicker. Instead, they placed the pressure on Xu Huo to choose with whom to trade.

Anyone could see that neither of them was trustworthy. Nice words were just a guise; both had ambushed them after the game. Choosing either of them could have aftermaths, but not choosing wasn’t an option either; it was clear Xu Huo couldn’t leave without handing over the Perfect Potion.

"What now?" Hua Sisi couldn’t find her friend, and instead, they fell into this predicament, leaving her only to suggest, "How about we run?"

The round-faced player reminded, "You can’t be sure they haven’t marked you with a tracking prop. Even if you reach another Wormhole Point, you might not shake them off. That would be endless trouble. In the Fish Banquet Building, at least they have to show some respect to the boss. Why not toss the potion out and let them compete for it themselves; whoever wins can take it."

This suggestion earned him a sideways glance from the other two. Was he out of his mind? In this situation, No. 1 and No. 6 wouldn’t permit him to Misfortune Diversion; if he dared do that, they would join forces to deal with him first and then discuss potion distribution, perhaps even splitting it evenly if they negotiated well.

The tension was palpable when suddenly a man wearing a shark mask appeared in the blockade, standing by Xu Huo’s side, and calmly announced:

"Miss Zhai would like to see this person."

No. 1 and No. 6 lost their previous composure, but the former quickly regained his calm and said, "Miss Zhai’s wishes must be respected. In that case, I’ll take my leave."

No. 1 left, and No. 6 had to as well. However, he handed Xu Huo a contact, more than a little unwilling, asking him to reach out if he changed his mind.

All the surrounding barriers vanished, and the man in the shark mask placed a hand on Xu Huo’s shoulder, "Let’s go together."
