Chapter 294 The Girl Who Came to Visit
Chapter 294 The Girl Who Came to Visit
Faced with the old man's seemingly genuine yet feigned "threat," Yan Zhixu couldn't help but chuckle.
Although he was on the phone with Grandpa Yan, his gaze kept following that beautiful figure. He saw her turn around to look at him several times, and then turn back when she saw that he was still on the phone.
Their eyes met again, and he gently raised the corners of his lips; she returned the smile with a sweet one.
"You all really don't need to worry about me anymore. Everything is going very smoothly on my end. If you have any ideas, you might as well make more plans for Beian."
As expected, Grandpa Yan's attention was diverted, and he felt a headache coming on when he thought of his grandson.
"Speaking of Bei'an, I get so angry."
Yan Zhixu lowered her brows, feigning ignorance as she asked, "What's wrong?"
Grandpa Yan said angrily, "That kid was having a good relationship with Weiwei, but for some reason, he came back last week saying that the two of them had broken up. It's simply outrageous!"
Yan Zhixu knew this, and with a slight smile, he said, "Don't be angry. He's still young, there's no rush for him to get married. He'll meet the right person eventually."
Grandpa Yan: "I'm angry that he missed out on such a good girl! Our whole family likes Weiwei so much, but he's such a disappointment. He said the two of them are incompatible. I think Weiwei has a good personality. It's just that he's immature and doesn't treat people well. That's why the girl doesn't want to be with him!"
Yan Zhixu spoke up for his nephew: "Bei'an has been busy with work lately, so it's understandable that he might neglect one thing for another. You can't blame him."
Grandpa Yan: "You seem to understand him. I heard you invested money in his small company?"
Yan Zhixu: "Yes, some were invested."
Grandpa Yan snorted: "You too, his father and I deliberately didn't invest because we wanted him to come back to work in the company. Why are you encouraging him to develop outside?"
Yan Zhixu stretched his long legs, changed his position and crossed his legs, and said slowly, "I have reviewed his company's products. They are quite innovative, and I think they have good prospects, so I invested in them."
"He also told me that this product launch, whether good or bad, will be returned to the group, so you and your brother don't need to worry, just wait patiently."
Grandpa Yan: "Is this what he told you?"
Yan Zhixu: "Yes."
He added, “Actually, Bei’an is quite clever. Before, you and your elder brother were strict with him and had many demands, which made him rebellious. He was holding back his anger and wanted to achieve something to show you. If you push him too hard, it will backfire. You might as well loosen up and wait for him to deliver results.”
Grandpa Yan paused, seemingly having taken it to heart. After a moment of contemplation, he softened his tone and said, "He doesn't say anything to me or his father. It's your uncle who's closer to him and gets the most information."
When Yan Zhixu saw Liang Liangwei turn around and look at him again, he put his legs down, sat up straight, and said, "Dad, you should rest early. I'm hanging up now."
Grandpa Yan: "Alright, don't neglect the young lady too much. Remember to bring her back for dinner next week."
"understood."
Seeing that he had finally hung up the phone, Liang Liangwei then came over with the books she had bought.
"Are you done talking?"
Yan Zhixu gestured for her to sit next to him and said, "You don't actually need to avoid talking to my father on the phone."
Liang Liangwei sat down next to him and handed him her fruit tea, though she had already drunk most of it.
"I have no idea who you were talking to on the phone. You looked so serious, I thought it was Assistant Xu."
He took a sip of the fruit tea; it was a bit too sweet. He frowned, then looked over when he heard her say that: "Am I being serious?"
Liang Liangwei tilted her head and looked at him: "Anyway, I can't tell if you're happy."
Yan Zhixu thought about her expression just now and couldn't help but smile.
He placed his hand on the back of her chair, his long, slender fingers landing lightly on his girlfriend's shoulder, and said, "I was talking to my father about you."
Liang Liangwei's eyes twitched, and she asked while biting her straw, "What did you talk about about me?"
Yan Zhixu looked at her with a faint smile: "He still has doubts about me having a girlfriend, so he asked me to bring you home for dinner."
Liang Liangwei recalled the way he talked on the phone earlier. He did look up at her from time to time, his eyes deep and dark, as if he was talking about something related to her.
"What did you say?"
Yan Zhixu: "I said I'd take you back next weekend, would you like to?"
Liang Liangwei rolled her eyes, then suddenly smiled, her eyebrows curving upwards: "Then should we ask Yan Bei'an to find a reason not to go back that day, otherwise I'm afraid he'll get beaten up again."
Yan Zhixu raised an eyebrow and nodded seriously: "Yes, then I'll send him on a business trip somewhere else."
Liang Liangwei chuckled, then asked worriedly, "What about me? Will I get beaten? Judging from Yan Beian's description, it must hurt a lot when Grandpa Yan hits me with that stick."
Yan Zhixu couldn't help but chuckle: "Of course not, why would I bother a girl who comes to visit?"
He then added humorously, "If anyone's going to fight, it'll be me."
Liang Liangwei gave a muffled laugh.
Yan Zhixu put his arm around his girlfriend's shoulder and pulled her into his arms. Looking down at her, he said softly, "Don't worry, I'm here for you. Will you come back with me next weekend?"
Liang Liangwei nestled against his shoulder, the pleasant, cool pine scent wafting into her nose, making her feel at ease. She nodded.
Yan Zhixu glanced at the book in her hand: "What book did you buy?"
Liang Liangwei waved the book: "A book of essays, to read before bed. I also bought a phone case, and I bought one for you too. Do you want to change your phone?"
Yan Zhixu doesn't care much about protecting the appearance of his phone. She noticed that he was wearing a transparent case, so when she saw that the book cafe was selling phone cases, she picked one out for him too.
His girlfriend wanted to get him a new phone, and he didn't object; he simply handed it to her.
Liang Liangwei took it with great interest, took out the case she had just bought, and carefully put it on him.
She picked out a red phone case with the words "I'm determined to be a rich woman" written on it, which was festive and auspicious, perfect for celebrating the unfreezing of her bank card.
I wouldn't dare buy him such a nonsensical design, lest a dignified multinational CEO take it out and get stares, which would be too embarrassing. So I chose a black and gold solid color case based on his phone model, which suits his personality perfectly.
After changing the phone case, she was about to hand it to him when she suddenly saw his phone light up with a WeChat message.
Lisa: [You went to Indonesia? When are you coming back?]
Lisa? That name... I feel like I heard it not long ago. Who is she?
Why ask him when he'll be back?
The tone of the question was as if it had been waiting for him somewhere; it was a simple question, yet it carried a hint of ambiguity.
She didn't intentionally look at his information; she just happened to glance at it and thought about it to herself.
He handed him the phone: "It's all changed. You've received a message."
Yan Zhixu took the phone and opened it in front of her without any hesitation. After seeing the message, she did not reply but turned off the screen and put the phone away.
Liang Liangwei pretended not to care as she drank her fruit tea, but she could actually see his movements out of the corner of her eye.
Yan Zhixu tilted her head and asked, "Do you want to continue shopping?"
Liang Liangwei: Aren't you going to reply to my messages?
Yan Zhixu: "It's not important."
Liang Liangwei: "Oh, then let's go back."
