Chapter 163 Beggar
Chapter 163 Beggar
Just when the two were about to fall off the cliff, Shen Mo stretched out his hand and grabbed a protruding rock, while his other hand tightly grasped Lin Yuwei's wrist.
"Yuwei, don't be afraid, I won't let you fall!" Shen Mo clenched his teeth, veins bulging on his forehead.
Lin Yuwei's face was full of fear, but after hearing Shen Mo's words, she felt a little relieved.
"Shen Mo, you must hold on!" she said in a trembling voice.
Shen Mo used all his strength to pull Lin Yuwei up little by little. The two of them lay on the edge of the cliff, gasping for breath.
"Finally I escaped." Shen Mo said.
Lin Yuwei had tears in her eyes: "Thanks to you."
After a short rest, they continued on their way. At this time, the sky gradually darkened, and the surrounding woods looked even more eerie and terrifying.
"Shen Mo, I always feel like something is following us." Lin Yuwei looked around nervously.
Shen Mo clenched the sword in his hand cautiously: "Don't be afraid, I'm here."
Suddenly, a cold wind blew and the leaves rustled.
"Who?" Shen Mo shouted loudly.
However, all he got in response was silence.
As they walked cautiously, they suddenly heard a low whimpering sound.
"This sound...seems to come from over there." Lin Yuwei pointed to a cave not far away.
Shen Mo frowned: "Let's go and take a look."
When they entered the cave, they could smell a pungent smell. By the light of the torch, they saw some messy footprints and bloodstains on the ground.
"It seems something happened here." Shen Mo said.
Just as they were about to explore deeper, a huge bat swooped down from the top of the cave.
"Be careful!" Shen Mo protected Lin Yuwei behind him and swung his sword at the bat.
The bat dodged nimbly and launched several more attacks.
After a fierce fight, Shen Mo finally killed the bat.
"Let's get out of here quickly." Shen Mo said.
They walked out of the cave and found that it was drizzling outside.
"The rain comes at a really bad time." Lin Yuwei complained.
Shen Mo took off his coat and shielded Lin Yuwei from the rain: "Hold on a little longer, maybe there is a place to shelter ahead."
They walked with difficulty in the rain and finally saw a dilapidated temple.
"Let's go in and hide from the rain." Shen Mo said.
The temple was very dark and damp, and the corners were filled with miscellaneous items.
Lin Yuwei found a clean place to sit down, shivering.
Shen Mo started a fire and asked Lin Yuwei to stay warm.
"I don't know how long it will take to return to the palace." Lin Yuwei said.
Shen Mo comforted her: "Don't worry, we will set off when the rain stops."
Just then, there was a noisy sound of footsteps outside the temple.
Shen Mo and Lin Yuwei suddenly became nervous.
"Could it be pursuers?" Lin Yuwei said.
Shen Mo signaled her not to make any sound and quietly walked to the door to observe.
A group of ragged beggars walked in.
"Turns out he's a beggar." Shen Mo breathed a sigh of relief.
The beggars also seemed a little surprised to see them.
"Everyone, we are just taking shelter here. No offense meant." Shen Mo said.
The leader of the beggars was an old man. He looked at Shen Mo and Lin Yuwei and said, "In that case, let's go together."
During his communication with the beggars, Shen Mo learned that they were displaced due to the war.
"This world is really hard to survive in." The old man sighed.
Lin Yuwei felt compassion: "We will find a way to help you."
After the rain stopped, Shen Mo and Lin Yuwei said goodbye to the beggars and continued on their way.
After walking for a long time, they came to a wide river.
"The river is flowing fast, how can we get across?" Lin Yuwei looked at the river with difficulty.
Shen Mo looked around and found a fallen tree not far away.
"We can use this tree to cross the river." Shen Mo said.
They walked up the tree trunk carefully, the river water hitting the trunk making their steps shaky.
"Be careful, Yuwei." Shen Mo reminded.
Just as they were about to reach the other side, the tree trunk suddenly broke.
"Ah!" The two fell into the water again...
