Chapter 49 Intuition
Chapter 49 Intuition
"Haa...haa...it really works." I murmured to myself, panting.
Then, I looked around and walked out of the training room. The walls were covered with arrows, a testament to the battle.
The place I was in was the archery club's facility, which was different from the regular training grounds provided by the academy.
Here, there are better simulated environments and more advanced monsters for training. While the training rooms don't actually create monsters, they can simulate and holographically project them. Essentially, they are artificial life forms created using advanced technology.
Therefore, the more advanced the technology, the higher the efficiency. Naturally, as one of the world's top academies, Arcadia Hunter Academy has access to the best equipment.
The problem is that these facilities are only available to older students. This is a manifestation of capitalism.
In any case, thanks to the excellent facilities provided by the club's training room, I was able to focus on training, and now I can confidently say that I have made some progress.
I barely stopped training all night.
"It's one in the morning now, it's time to go back." With that thought, I left the training room and entered the club's lobby.
whoosh-
A gentle breeze brushed my face, accompanied by a captivating scene. In the quiet atmosphere of the training hall, Alice stood gracefully.
Her signature long green hair and fiery red eyes made her seem almost otherworldly. She wielded the bow with an innate elegance, her movements a perfect blend of fluidity and precision.
Seeing her, it's easy to understand why she's called the "campus goddess." Her appearance is flawless; from an aesthetic point of view, watching her train is a pleasure. But that's about it.
"However, I really wish her personality and arrogance could be just as captivating," I thought to myself as I observed.
However, what truly caught my attention was her extraordinary control over magic. Her ability to seamlessly infuse magic into arrows and gracefully manipulate their properties was truly impressive.
"As a first-year student, her control over magic is indeed among the best. No wonder she's ranked fifth," I thought to myself.
Alice, focused on her training, seemed oblivious to her surroundings.
But after she finished that set of exercises, her gaze turned to me, and our eyes met briefly. In her fiery red eyes, I saw a fleeting recognition, but it quickly turned into cold indifference.
I know what that recognition means; it's how she remembers people who have offended her.
Without a word or any attempt to acknowledge it, she continued training, leaving me standing still as if I were insignificant. This served as a stark reminder of the distance between us, not only physical but also based on bloodline and social status.
Well, this was expected, so I didn't look at it any further and turned to leave, heading back to my dorm.
Ultimately, that's not an important matter at all.
......
rustling --
The cool morning breeze blew towards me the next day, and I continued running to improve my physical fitness.
It's Saturday, so there aren't many people on campus, except for those students who genuinely want to improve themselves. I only saw a few diligent students.
I've made morning runs a habit, running for at least an hour every morning before starting my day. It's beneficial for both my physical and mental health, and it allows me to think independently during that time.
whoosh-
Just then, I felt something rush past me.
"Hey Julia, slow down!"
A familiar voice rang out behind me.
"Ethan."
Our protagonist was running, panting heavily. His blue hair was a little messy, but his brown eyes were full of determination.
"Ha... Don't tell me you're going to stop now!" the girl who rushed past me like a bullet shouted, a smile on her face. "If you're going to admit defeat, just say so."
Although she was speaking to Ethan, and even though they had distanced themselves, her attention remained on him. Her snow-white hair was still clean and neat, without a speck of sweat. Her slightly boyish, arrogant smile held a hint of playfulness.
"Sigh... alright, alright. I give up. Can you slow down a bit?" Ethan, who had caught up, waved his hand and said with a resigned expression. "Dinner tonight is on me," he said, still looking defeated.
"Looks like they made a bet," I thought to myself. "That really suits Julia's personality."
“Oh, Morse, good morning.” However, it seemed that Ethan recognized me even though I was wearing a hood.
"Don't talk to me."
But I had no interest in talking to them. I was briefly drawn to the bullet-like phenomenon that flashed by, but after confirming it was Julia, I resumed my own pace.
"Still so indifferent." Ethan's voice echoed behind me, while I continued running forward, becoming a lonely figure in the morning background.
As I ran past Julia, she looked at me with a faint smile, but I ignored her and continued to let my running rhythm guide me.
......
After Morse left, Julia walked towards Ethan, who watched her departing figure with a slight smile on his face.
Snapped!
“Why are you laughing like an idiot?” she asked, giving Ethan a hard pat on the back.
"Cough—" The sudden impact made Ethan gasp, even choking on the water he had just drunk. "What's going on? What are you doing?" Ethan asked, looking puzzled.
“It’s okay, it’s okay,” Julia said with a mischievous smile on her face.
Ethan cleared his throat, regaining his composure. "Could you please let me know in advance next time?"
Julia shrugged casually. "What's the fun in that?"
Ethan smiled and rubbed the spot she had patted. "Okay, you're right."
The two exchanged a knowing glance, then turned their gaze to the direction Morse had gone.
“He’s still as mysterious as ever,” Ethan said thoughtfully, his smile softening and becoming more contemplative.
Julia raised an eyebrow. "You're very interested in him, aren't you?"
“Yeah, he’s really funny. He interrupts me every time I talk to him,” Ethan said, shaking his head.
“This is the first time I’ve seen someone become interested in him just because he was interrupted.” Julia squinted at Ethan. “Don’t tell me you like this type.”
"Pfft—" Poor Ethan had only wanted to take a sip of water, but he choked and spat it all out again. He looked at Julia blankly and asked, "How could you think of something like that?"
“These twins are really good at playing pranks,” Ethan thought. He noticed Julia was laughing even more heartily. Her long, snow-white hair shimmered in the morning light, and despite her angelic appearance, her mischievous nature often made people overlook her feminine side.
"Sigh...you just love teasing people, don't you?" Ethan sighed, saying helplessly. Despite her love for teasing, Ethan still found it much easier to be with her than with Alice or other girls.
“Wow, Sherlock, you just realized that?” Julia replied with a laugh, her mischievous smile still lingering.
"..."
"I knew it."
"Ugh......"
"Speaking of which, tell me. Why are you so interested in him?" Julia's expression suddenly turned serious. "He doesn't seem to have anything worth your attention. He has neither ability nor background."
Although Julia appears somewhat masculine and sometimes carefree, she lives in a world where strength reigns supreme and is well aware of the importance of power and status.
Morse had neither. He had neither background nor sufficient strength to support himself.
Ethan pondered for a moment, his gaze drifting into the distance. "It's probably just intuition. I just feel there's something about him that interests me. You know, my intuition is usually pretty accurate."
If Morse were there, he would surely say that this was the protagonist's intuition.
Julia raised an eyebrow, a knowing smile playing on her lips: "Of course I know, your 'intuition' is usually frighteningly accurate."
Ethan scratched the back of his head sheepishly: "Well... you've seen it too. It's like an instinct, and it's never let me down."
Julia's smile widened: "Remember that time you found that rare artifact in the game 'by instinct'? Everyone thought you were crazy, but you actually dug it up."
Ethan laughed, clearly remembering the experience vividly: "Yeah, that was amazing."
Julia playfully nudged him with her shoulder: "I've always said you have some kind of sixth sense."
Ethan chuckled again and patted her on the shoulder in return: "Maybe that's true. But this time, I'm not sure what it thinks of Morse."
Julia's cynicism subsided slightly, and her eyes became more serious: "Be careful. No matter how accurate your intuition is, not everyone is as simple as they seem. Just like you, I sensed something strange about him too."
Although not as intensely as Ethan's, Julia, as a warrior and swordswoman, also sensed something unusual about Morse.
Ethan nodded thoughtfully. "To be honest, I feel the same way. But I don't think he's a bad person. He's just... a little special. Maybe a bit withdrawn, but not necessarily malicious."
Julia crossed her arms and looked at Ethan with suspicion: "Reclusive? Is this your 'professional analysis'?"
Ethan smiled. "That's the only word that comes to mind right now. What's certain is that he's definitely more than he appears."
Julia sighed and looked at Ethan with gentle eyes: "Promise me, if things start to get weird, don't get too involved."
Ethan put his hand on his chest and said, feigning seriousness, "I swear, I will never get into trouble."
Julia rolled her eyes, but a smile played on her lips: "I'll remember what you said."
Snapped!
Suddenly, another slap landed on Ethan's back, causing him to stagger.
"What is it now?" Ethan looked at Julia with obvious impatience, clearly feeling that her joke had gone a bit too far.
Julia smiled warmly and reached out to ruffle his hair: "Alright, let's go have breakfast. You lost the game, so this meal is on you."
Ethan rolled his eyes, but a smile crept onto his lips: "Alright, alright. But remember my words, I will win someday."
The two walked and laughed, their laughter echoing through the campus, showcasing the deep bond between these childhood sweethearts who understood each other better than anyone else.
However, Julia still remembered the boy who had piqued her friend's interest. Although, she quickly put the thought aside...
