Chapter 84 Discussion

"Announcement: Candidate No. 1 used the deduction card against Candidate No. 7. Candidate No. 7's current score is 18."

"Announcement: Candidate No. 1 used the deduction card against Candidate No. 6. Candidate No. 6's current score is 37."

"Announcement: Candidate No. 1 used the deduction card against Candidate No. 13. Candidate No. 13's current score is 29."

……

The announcements were broadcast one by one, and it only quieted down after ten announcements, which startled the other people in the examination room.

"If I remember correctly, number 1 was the one who entered with ten bonus cards?"

"I bet number 1 was surrounded and then turned the tables!"

"Wait, where did Number 1 get so many deduction cards?"

"Maybe they've partnered with someone else."

"Damn, looks like I'll have to avoid this Number 1."

"Did you notice that the people who lost points all had pretty high scores? I just heard someone get 53 points! I think it was number 42!"

"I heard it! I heard it!"

Before the other candidates who hadn't participated could finish their discussion, the broadcast started again.

"Announcement: Candidate No. 40 used the deduction card against Candidate No. 42. Candidate No. 42's current score is 50."

"Announcement: Candidate No. 29 used the deduction card against Candidate No. 42. Candidate No. 42's current score is 49."

"Announcement: Candidate No. 34 used the deduction card against Candidate No. 42. Candidate No. 42's current score is 44."

The audience listening to the radio had another discussion, but let's leave that aside for now.

Chu Deng, who was at the scene, found it very amusing that the people who had been taking turns attacking her suddenly changed their targets after hearing about the high-scoring No. 42 on the radio.

"You guys!" Number 42 muttered incoherently to Ji Fei, his eyes red with anger.

"Sorry, your score is too high," Zhao Jiacheng, who was in charge of organizing the event, said with a grin.

“That’s right, that’s exactly it. We didn’t come to you because we couldn’t beat Chu Deng!” Cheng Hao nodded, adding in a way that seemed to imply something was amiss, and was glared at by Zhao Jiacheng.

Xiang Jifei glared at the two of them resentfully, then, both angry and anxious, she slipped out from under their arms and ran away.

"Hey, no, her 44 points isn't safe either! Shouldn't we add a few more?" Ji Weilu had just received a deduction card from Chu Deng, and seeing that the two leaders had let Xiang Jifei go, he said somewhat dissatisfied.

Zhao Jiacheng turned to look at him, and Ji Weilu was so frightened by that look that he took a few steps back.

Cheng Hao blinked, looking at the people they had gathered together. There were students from Class 2 and a few from Class 1.

"What are you sticking on! Run!" Zhao Jiacheng suddenly pushed aside Ji Weilu, who was blocking his way, and darted away.

Cheng Hao didn't even dare to look at Chu Deng, and ran out after her, kindly calling out, "Haven't you had enough of sticking on the genie yet?"

The group stared in disbelief as their leader disappeared from sight. Then, provoked by Cheng Hao's question, they stiffly turned to look at Chu Deng, before scattering and fleeing in all directions.

When Chu Deng's name was called, she chuckled and took out a stack of deduction cards she had found.

The deduction cards in the exam room were hidden in very perfunctory places, on the wall, in the track, and at the supply point. But they couldn't escape Chu Deng's observation. She had collected some before she even started her stakeout. She used a few of the bonus cards for herself. Since there weren't many, she saved them all, thinking of keeping them for Jin Xiaoyue.

The stack of deduction cards she's holding now includes some that she swiped from others during the earlier brawl.

While she was resting and waiting, a group of people surrounded her, eyeing her menacingly. Each of them held at least one deduction card, and several others were eager to use the techniques taught by Instructor Huo to subdue her and give her a deduction card.

Unfortunately, they encountered Chu Deng.

A group of people were pinned against the wall and rubbed against it by Chu Deng. Without exception, Chu Deng gave each of them a deduction card. Some screamed and others cried out in pain.

After Chu Deng finished pasting the notice, he clapped his hands, and the loudspeaker sounded, broadcasting a series of announcements in the face of the person who had arrived.

This was a serious matter, and they immediately started fighting amongst themselves.

Ultimately, this exam is entirely an individual's responsibility. Although there is cooperation, the purpose of getting together is only to reduce the threat posed by others. Now, they know that their partners are their biggest threat, and the others have joined forces to cause trouble.

After they finished, they realized that Chu Deng was not a threat to them, but that he could reduce their scores. The group panicked and fled.

But Chu Deng wouldn't let them off easily.

Chu Deng, who always believed in "I will not offend others unless they offend me," began to wreak havoc with a bunch of deduction cards in hand.

"Get out of the way! Get out of the way!!!" Cheng Hao shouted, sweating profusely. He glanced back and was immediately startled, his running speed approaching his personal record for a 100-meter sprint.

As he ran, he tried to console himself with a wry smile, thinking, "Being chased by the Genie, I'm probably the first one in the whole school! Even Star Boy doesn't have that kind of luck yet!"

Zhao Jiacheng looked around, then turned onto the straight road, shouting, "Brother, let's split up, so we don't get caught together!"

Before he could finish speaking, he was startled by Chu Deng appearing out of the corner of his eye, causing his voice to rise sharply. He then displayed a hidden flourish, bent over and braked suddenly, bent his knees, and pushed off the ground with his right foot at an angle. He made a beautiful emergency stop and turn and slipped into the straight lane. His starting speed left Cheng Hao, who was running and looking back, in awe.

Chu Deng watched Zhao Jiacheng's retreating figure, a deduction card between her fingers. With a flick of her fingertip, the card flew towards Zhao Jiacheng like a projectile, striking him in the back. The force of the impact made him stagger. Before he could regain his footing, he heard a "beep" followed by a "thud." He looked at the deduction card lying on the ground in surprise, and finally couldn't help but glance behind him.

Zhao Jiacheng saw Chu Deng standing twenty meters away at the entrance of the straight track, her hand holding the card slowly rising. Zhao Jiacheng was startled and changed his strategy, switching from running in a straight line to running in a curve, moving away from Chu Deng without stopping.

"Announcement: Candidate No. 1 used the deduction card against Candidate No. 33. Candidate No. 33's current score is 38."

"Huh? This actually works?!" Cheng Hao couldn't see the specific situation inside the straight track from where he was standing, but he could see Chu Deng. He saw Zhao Jiacheng nimbly enter the straight track, and Chu Deng, who was standing at the entrance, stopped chasing and threw out a card like a dart. He laughed at Chu Deng for showing off, but how could he possibly stick to it when it was so far away and took three seconds to take effect?

When the announcement came on, it turned out the clown was himself!

When Chu Deng turned his gaze to him, Cheng Hao smiled wryly and stopped running. Running was pointless anyway. He obediently turned around and showed the equipment on his back, pleading, "Genius, can we make a deal? Can I just stick one on?"
