Chapter 399 Sneak Attack
Chapter 399 Sneak Attack
Yu Yang lay on the familiar testing table while Xiao Lin collected his sample.
When the needle pierced his arm, he was surprised to find that his skin was much tougher than before, and he could hardly feel any pain.
"Incredible!" Kobayashi stared at the microscope, his eyes wide.
"Your red blood cells contain a new type of hemoglobin, three times more efficient than normal! And the DNA sequence—here, and here—shows clear signs of artificial design!"
Yu Yang sat up: "My father's job; he's a member of the Noah Project."
Xiaolin continued analyzing the data, then suddenly froze: "Wait, this genetic marker."
He quickly pulled up another database for comparison. "This is impossible! This sequence is patented!"
"What?" Yu Yang frowned.
“Ocean Biotechnology Co., Ltd.,” Kobayashi’s voice trembled, “they registered this gene patent ten years ago, describing it as an ‘aquatic adaptive enhancer.’ But they claim it’s just a theoretical model and they’ve never conducted any human trials!”
Yu Yang was struck dumb.
Oceanic Bio-Tech – the largest supplier of survival capsules for New Atlantis and the largest sponsor of the Council.
If they have already mastered some aquatic adaptation techniques but are keeping it a secret...
“We need to tell Morrie,” he said immediately, “that this might be—”
An alarm suddenly blared throughout the entire research institute.
The red warning light flashed, and the broadcast system activated: "Attention all personnel! Abnormal activity detected in the eastern waters! Unidentified submersible approaching! Security forces, take your positions immediately! Repeat!"
Yu Yang and Xiao Lin rushed to the window.
On the distant sea, several black objects are breaking through the waves.
It was not an ordinary submersible, but some kind of biomechanical hybrid, resembling a giant sea serpent, with obvious weapon devices on its head.
“The Eye of the Deep Sea!” Yu Yang recognized the design style. “But why would they be here?”
His communicator suddenly rang; it was Haiyuan's emergency channel.
“Yu Yang!” Ryan’s voice was unusually panicked. “Karl has escaped! He stole the control codes for Leviathan and is now leading the Eye of the Deep to attack New Atlantis! You must evacuate immediately!”
"Evacuate? No!" Yu Yang looked out the window at the approaching threat. "There are tens of thousands of innocent civilians here!"
"Their target is you and Cheng Hai! Karl believes the hybrids are a contamination of 'pure new humans'! I've sent reinforcements, but they'll take at least twenty minutes to arrive!"
Communication is interrupted.
Yu Yang turned to Kobayashi: "How is the research institute's defense system?"
"Basically none!" Kobayashi's face turned deathly pale. "We're just a research institution!"
The first wave of attacks arrived at this time.
Three beams of blue light shot out from the nearest sea serpent device and struck the supporting pillars of the eastern residential area.
The explosion was deafening, and the entire floating city shook violently.
Panic gripped the crowd as they screamed and scattered in all directions.
Yu Yang saw Speaker Mori rushing to the command center under the escort of security personnel, while ordinary residents ran around aimlessly, some even jumping into the sea—which was tantamount to suicide for those who had no ability to adapt to aquatic life.
"We must buy some time," Yu Yang resolved. "Xiao Lin, do me a favor."
"What?"
"Contact the medical center and prepare to receive the wounded." Yu Yang took off his coat, revealing the Abyss Armor underneath.
"Tell Mori that reinforcements from the Abyss are on their way. Do not attack the blue-skinned ones."
Before Xiaolin could respond, Yu Yang had already rushed towards the dock.
A speedboat was half-submerged in the explosion, but it is still operational.
He jumped on, started the engine, and drove straight toward the sea serpent devices.
As the sea breeze whistles by, the gills automatically close, switching to pure lung respiration.
Yu Yang felt a certain instinct awakening within him—not only a physiological adaptation, but also an urge to fight.
Sensing the surge of adrenaline, the armor began to secrete a enhancing substance that sharpened his senses.
The recent sea serpent device spotted him and turned him around.
At the last moment, Yu Yang swerved the steering wheel, and the speedboat almost tilted to the side, narrowly avoiding a streak of blue light.
He grabbed the ship's spare anchor cable and, in the instant they passed each other, wrapped it around the sea serpent's mechanical parts.
The metal rubbing together produced a harsh sound.
The sea snake thrashed violently, trying to shake off the speedboat.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Yu Yang climbed onto the behemoth to search for the control unit.
The armor gloves automatically deformed, with tiny tool interfaces extending from the fingertips to help him pry open the outer panel.
The interior is a nauseating biomechanical hybrid structure—part circuitry and hydraulic systems, part flesh and nerve tissue.
In the very center, a brain-like creature floats in a transparent chamber, connected to mechanical parts by countless thin tubes.
"A biological computer!" Yu Yang recalled Ryan mentioning Karl's insane experiments. "He used a living brain as the control core!"
The brain-like creature suddenly "looked" at him, and the transparent chamber flashed red light.
The sea snake convulsed violently, attempting to throw Yu Yang into the sea.
He gripped the exposed cable tightly, while his other hand reached for the control panel.
“I’m sorry, whoever you were,” Yu Yang said in a low voice, then abruptly severed the main nerve bundle.
The sea snake went limp instantly and sank into the sea.
But the other four have already surrounded us, and the blue light is poised to strike.
Yu Yang knew he had nowhere to escape—just then, the sea suddenly began to boil.
A huge shadow rose from the depths, moving at an incredible speed.
The first sea serpent to sense the danger was about to turn around when it was bitten in two by a giant mouth full of sharp teeth.
"Leviathan!" Yu Yang exclaimed.
But this was not the friendly behemoth they had seen before.
This Leviathan has unnaturally red eyes, its skin is covered with metal implants, and its movements are characterized by mechanical precision and cruelty.
It tore at the sea serpent device while deliberately avoiding the wreckage where Yu Yang was, as if it had received a specific instruction not to harm him.
The remaining Sea Serpent devices quickly adjusted their formation and concentrated their firepower on Leviathan.
The blue light left charred marks on the behemoth, but it seemed to feel no pain and continued to relentlessly destroy its enemies.
Yu Yang's communicator suddenly got a signal.
It wasn't Haiyuan's channel, but an unfamiliar encrypted line.
"A fine performance, Dr. Yu," Karl's voice came, even more distorted than before, "It seems Ryan gave you not only gills, but also the genetic memories of a warrior."
"Karl! Cease the attack!" Yu Yang shouted into the communicator. "These civilians have done you no wrong!"
“An attack?” Karl chuckled. “I’m just testing a new weapon system. The real attack hasn’t even begun yet. As for civilians, don’t be naive. In the face of this great transformation, there are no neutrals. Embrace evolution or be eliminated.”
As he spoke, Karl continued his attack on New Atlantis, causing another wave of panic among the city's inhabitants.
