Annie's Otherworldly Adventure

37 The Battle of the Pterosaurs (Part 1)

37 The Battle of the Pterosaurs (Part 1)

The group of over four hundred people continued the tradition of Silver Wolves forming teams of ten, and was divided into more than 20 smaller teams. The team that Annie encountered this time was the one led by the female magician Shidini.

The sixth-tier pterosaur is the target of the Silver Wolf Mercenary Group's squad this time.

After the true dragons migrated away from the continent of Gerson, alchemical artifacts made from dragons became increasingly rare. In some necessary situations, alchemists had to use items from pterosaurs as substitutes.

In World of Warcraft, flying monsters are generally more difficult to deal with, and of course, they are also more valuable.

Pterosaurs, since they have the word "dragon" in their name, are naturally quite strong. However, most sixth-tier pterosaurs are hybrids with other magical beasts, so their abilities are somewhat lower than those of purebred pterosaurs.

This wasn't the first time the squad had dealt with a Tier 6 pterosaur, and the entire team was well-organized: scouts explored the area, specifically targeting lone pterosaurs, while mages followed behind. Warriors who couldn't fly were at a disadvantage against pterosaurs, so their task was to closely follow the mages and protect them.

Anne originally wanted to fight using martial arts, but since the main force in the battle had become mages, she went along with it and chose to fight as a mage.

Pterosaurs actually look similar to dragons, only much smaller. Their scales are not as bright as a dragon's, and their claws are not as sharp. This is their appearance. In terms of inner strength, pterosaurs and real dragons are worlds apart.

However, the squad fought relatively smoothly. After all, the strength of the entire team was far beyond what the Silver Wolf Mercenary Group could compare to back then. Most of the members were around the intermediate level of mages.

Even Annie's strength has increased significantly. She has mastered the five elements of magic—wind, fire, water, earth, and light—to their highest level, the third stage of the beginner level. Her swordsman level has also reached level three.

To be honest, neither her level of five elemental magic nor her swordsmanship has yet crossed the most important level. She is limited by her talent and cannot cross the intermediate level of magic. She is also just one step away from becoming a level four swordsman who can use battle aura. However, Annie's combat relies on a combination of her knowledge and flexible application of skills. Therefore, in a real battle, her level is no less than that of an intermediate magician.

It's a pity that she can't use her spatial magic freely for the time being; otherwise, her combat power would at least reach the level of a high-level mage.

Of course, Anne is unaware of her exact skill level; aside from her battle with Tyren, she has yet to use all her magic and martial arts techniques together.

What she didn't know was that Tiren was already a high-level mage.

At the Royal Academy of Magic, most graduates are at the intermediate or advanced level. After all, their starting point is relatively high, so their level is higher than that of other schools.

However, while high-level mages are formidable among ordinary people, they are only just beginning to become skilled in the magical world. This is something Annie is unaware of, as she is currently working with the team and focusing on dealing with the pterosaur.

The warriors protected the mage closely, while Annie focused on casting spells at the pterosaur.

The mages used magic to attack the pterosaurs from a distance. The pterosaurs in the sky had two choices: one was to counterattack, but the mages were protected by warriors, and they could also use magic to defend themselves, so the pterosaurs could only be killed; the other was for the pterosaurs to swoop down and attack the enemy directly, but there was only one result: the pterosaurs would be killed by a single blow from the warriors standing in front of the mages.

Since the entire team was highly skilled, and their mission objective was a pterosaur's magic core, they didn't need to worry about damaging the pterosaur's fur, so they attacked without restraint.

It wasn't that Shi Dili didn't want the other items on the pterosaur, but rather that capturing a pterosaur alive, or killing it without causing any damage, was simply too difficult.

When the loot was almost gone, the female mage, Shi Dili, decisively decided that the team could return home and collect their gold coins after defeating just one last monster.

Those who frequently read stories know that this is usually when something unexpected happens.

The pterosaur in front of them looked no different from other pterosaurs, except that it was slightly larger. The scout judged it to be a sixth-tier creature based on its attack, so he made it the last target.

The only difference is that this pterosaur's fire magic attacks are much more powerful than those of other pterosaurs. Annie threw a water ball spell at the pterosaur, soaking its body and also extinguishing half of the fireball that the pterosaur had just spat out.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, Shi Dili cast a lightning spell on the pterosaur.

The pterosaur's fire was still half-spitting out of its mouth when it was drenched by Annie's water magic and then struck by Shi Dili's lightning magic. The pterosaur's whole body convulsed violently. Normally, a pterosaur should have collapsed immediately, but this pterosaur was still circling in the air, its eyes red and every scale on its body turning as red as blood.

"Awooo..." the pterosaur roared, and the fire in its mouth grew bigger and bigger.

With a whoosh, the fire in the pterosaur's mouth transformed into a giant fire dragon that hurtled towards the mercenaries.

"Watch out, it's mutated! Scatter!" The female mage, Shi Dili, reacted quickly and gave the order. The team had been training together for a while and immediately obeyed and scattered. Unfortunately, they were a little slow, and the warriors were all injured to some extent while protecting the mages.

Annie immediately used magic to heal the warrior in front of her, while the pterosaur stopped convulsing, its eyes turned deep red, and it opened its mouth, unleashing a fire dragon that attacked.

The seventh-tier pterosaur is much stronger than the sixth-tier one. The pterosaur unleashed its beastly power, sweeping across the group with several fire dragons, scattering them in pieces.

The squad consists of 4 mages, 4 warriors, and 2 scouts. The current situation is as follows:

Caught off guard by the sudden mutation of the pterosaurs, the mages with broken legs couldn't react as quickly as their thighs, resulting in injuries to the warriors protecting them, and some of the mages themselves were also injured—one of them even fell and hurt himself.

The two scouts were unharmed thanks to their agility, Annie, skilled in both magic and martial arts, was also fine, and naturally, the warriors protecting her were also unharmed.

After a brief period of adjustment, the squad resumed efficient combat, maintaining the pattern of warriors protecting and mages attacking.

The newly evolved Tier 6 pterosaur was unlikely to cause much damage to the squad unless its sudden mutation caught the team off guard.

"Awooo..." Another dragon roar came, and the small team was shocked. Another pterosaur?

Sure enough, another pterosaur flew out of the forest and joined the first one. This pterosaur was clearly a pterosaur whose strength had long been consolidated at the eighth level.

A large fire dragon attacked, forcing the squad to retreat several steps. Only then did the two pterosaurs descend from the sky, glaring angrily at the squad from afar.

"You despicable humans!"

The pterosaur that came later spoke.

In the world of Warcraft, Tier 5 monsters begin to possess sentience and can understand human speech; Tier 8 monsters begin to speak; and Tier 9 monsters can transform into human form.

Therefore, the pterosaur in front of us is an eighth-tier pterosaur.

By the gods above, an eighth-tier pterosaur is incomparable to a seventh-tier pterosaur.

An eighth-tier pterosaur is equivalent to a high-level human mage.

Humans have an advantage when fighting against unawakened magical beasts because they are more agile and cunning than magical beasts. However, humans are relatively weaker compared to magical beasts with increasingly advanced awakened spiritual consciousness, because magical beasts have bodies that are much stronger than humans.

The eighth-tier pterosaur affectionately stroked the newly advanced seventh-tier pterosaur with its head. Clearly, they were a pair of lovers. Annie suddenly felt that it was a cruel thing for mercenaries to kill magical beasts. Before she could think any further, the eighth-tier and seventh-tier pterosaurs, in the moment of their passionate embrace, suddenly joined forces to launch an attack.

Warcraft's treacherous scheme: a sneak attack!

This time, the squad's mages were unable to dodge, and Annie used teleportation to avoid the heavy blow.

The other team members, focused on the pterosaurs, did not notice Annie's use of teleportation. By the time the attack by the eighth-tier and seventh-tier pterosaurs ended, the team had suffered heavy casualties. They lost one warrior, three warriors and two mages were seriously injured, Shidini was slightly injured, and even the two scouts were injured in time.

The only one who was completely unharmed was the youngest girl mage in the group—Annie.

The eighth-tier pterosaur didn't give Annie much time to prepare, and Annie reacted quickly. At this point, there was no need to hide her spatial magic anymore.

With a spatial teleportation, Annie teleported to the Seventh-Tier Wyrm's Sorrow, drew her longsword, and pressed it against the wyrm's back. Annie hoped to use the Seventh-Tier Wyrm as a hostage to threaten the Eighth-Tier Wyrm.

Unfortunately, the seventh-tier pterosaur was more irritable than she had expected. The pterosaur felt someone suddenly appear on its back and shook its body violently. Annie stumbled and fell, her hands tightly gripping the pterosaur's scales.

The eighth-tier pterosaur was very anxious upon seeing this, but dared not act rashly for fear of injuring the seventh-tier pterosaur.

The seventh-tier pterosaur tumbled through the air, trying to throw Annie off. Annie was dizzy and disoriented, but she still didn't let go. With a "rip," a scale was torn off the seventh-tier pterosaur.

"Aow..." The seventh-tier pterosaur cried out in pain and stopped rolling. Just as Annie breathed a sigh of relief, the seventh-tier pterosaur suddenly lunged at the ground.

Just before it reached the ground, the pterosaur suddenly flipped over, turning its back to the ground and placing Annie underneath.

Annie understood its intention and crushed herself into a meat patty. Left with no other choice, Annie cast a wind-based levitation spell and left the pterosaur's back.

The seventh-tier pterosaur was clearly not going to let her go. With its eyes red, it changed direction and slammed directly at her. Annie didn't have time to dodge, so she raised her longsword to defend.

A man and a dragon clash head-on; who will win?
