Chapter 23 The Yicun Murder Case 5

Chapter 23 The Yicun Murder Case 5

After listening to Fu Qingyan's story, Xiao Ji's expression turned serious. He couldn't help but rebuke him, "You eloped with a woman, which is already a heinous crime, but you were so careless in your precautions. You deserved to be ambushed."

Fu Qingyan reached out and tugged at Xiao Ji's sleeve, pouting, "Cousin, I know I was wrong."

"If you've walked through the gates of hell and still don't realize your mistakes, then you're truly beyond saving."

He couldn't imagine that if no one had come to his rescue, this vibrant life would have vanished silently in the mass grave.

Xiao Ji was quite frightened and solemnly instructed the group of readers, "When you see Miss Wei and Mr. Wei in the future, remember not to be rude."

"Yes," the group quickly replied.

"Cousin, can we find You Niang and that adulterer? I must avenge this!" Fu Qingyan said fiercely.

Xiao Ji stood with his hands behind his back, his brows slightly furrowed. "Since he is a fugitive, the authorities will pursue him. As for that young lady, she is an accomplice and will also be imprisoned."

Fu Qingyan took a deep breath. "Please don't tell the family about my injury, cousin."

"If you don't want your family to worry, you shouldn't have done such a thing. You're not young anymore, how can you still be so childish?"

Fu Qingyan was madly in love with Biyou at the time, but his family disagreed with him bringing her into the family. In a moment of impulsiveness, he eloped with her.

Looking back now, I wish I could slap myself a few times.

Xiao Ji shook his head secretly.

This cousin was spoiled and raised with a smooth life. Perhaps he will only grow up after experiencing this hardship.

Seeing that Fu Qingyan was exhausted, Xiao Ji told him to rest well and then left the house.

He looked around the house carefully; everywhere he looked, he saw signs of desolation, decay, and poverty.

It's a miracle that such a family could raise such a bright and insightful girl.

Xiao Ji saw the herbs drying in the yard. He recognized Panax notoginseng and Bletilla striata for stopping bleeding, and Leonurus japonicus for reducing swelling and relieving pain.

This father and daughter seem to be skilled in medicine; no wonder they were able to pull Fu Qingyan back from the brink of death.

Xiao Ji became increasingly curious about this family, feeling that their behavior was out of place in this dilapidated house.

Old Wei came out and said irritably, "Leave after you're done looking. Don't get in my way. Do you think you can freeload a meal?"

Guan Shu changed his previous attitude and said obsequiously, "Sir, you are very righteous. I will serve you like a slave for the rest of my life."

"Come on, you can't even cook."

Guan Shu blushed. He was a pageboy; he could read and write, but he couldn't cook.

Old Master Wei advised them, "You'd better go to the city and find a good doctor. Our medical skills are not good enough, and we can't guarantee a cure."

Xiao Ji nodded and instructed Guan Shu, "Then go to the county town and fetch a doctor."

After reading the book and leaving, Xiao Ji asked Old Wei, "Why do you live here, sir?"

Old Master Wei lay back on the bamboo chair and replied swayingly, "Nobody wants to be my neighbor."

He looked at the handsome young man before him, whose noble bearing and composed nature made him feel a sense of admiration.

"I used to be a wandering Taoist priest, but now I'm a shaman who guides the dead. To put it bluntly, I only deal with the dead."

"Did Miss Wei learn her autopsy skills from you?"

Old Master Wei's eyes flashed, and he answered ambiguously, "A little bit, my daughter is very smart."

Not long after, Wei Lanxiang came out carrying food.

A big pot of plain congee, a plate of greasy meat patties, and a cold seaweed salad—this is considered a good meal for an ordinary family.

Old Master Wei instructed Sui Feng and Sui Ying to move tables and chairs, saying to them, "Considering you paid extra for the medical expenses, this meal is on us."

Smelling the aroma of the meat patties, Sui Feng swallowed hard and asked obsequiously, "Your daughter has such culinary skills, why doesn't she set up a stall in the county town?"

"Hmph, do you think just anyone can eat the food my daughter makes?"

I want to eat fart!

"The food is simple, please make do with it, Lord Xiao," Wei Lanxiang said politely.

"Thank you, we're not picky eaters," Xiao Ji said sincerely.

They were in the countryside and hadn't brought any food with them when they left the city, so they were indeed hungry.

The food portions were generous, but Wei Lanxiang underestimated the appetites of the adult men. In the end, they even poured the broth from the kelp strips into the porridge to season it and ate it.

"Delicious!" Sui Feng praised generously.

Suiying nodded in agreement: "The young lady has excellent skills."

"This meat pie has a crispy crust and tender meat, and tastes excellent. The young lady's cooking skills are comparable to those of a restaurant chef." Xiao Ji gave a thumbs up.

When Guan Shu invited the old doctor over, he also had a feast delivered from a restaurant in the city, but only Old Wei took a bite of the food.

He hadn't eaten enough, so he only tasted a little of each dish before saying with disdain, "Which restaurant serves this food? It's so awful."

Guan Shu, unaware that Wei Laodao's palate had become so discerning, thought he was deliberately belittling him and pouted, saying, "You've gone too far, my young master isn't as picky as you."

He went inside to assist the old doctor, then prepared medicine and fed him, keeping him extremely busy.

As darkness fell, it was time for Xiao Ji to leave.

Guan Shu had to take care of his master, so he stayed behind.

The Wei family home at night exuded an eerie and terrifying atmosphere. Guan Shu sat in the house and felt the hairs on his body stand on end.

"Young Master, don't you think the Wei family father and daughter are acting strangely?"

Guan Shu rubbed his arms and wrapped the blanket around himself.

Fu Qingyan's gaze swept over the cabinet door, and he closed his eyes and said, "Don't talk nonsense, that's my savior."

His savior has some unusual hobbies; what else can he do but support him?

In the middle of the night, while reading, he felt the urge to urinate and ran to the outhouse to relieve himself.

The Wei family's outhouse didn't smell at all, and there wasn't a trace of filth in it.

After relieving myself, I flushed the toilet, and the waste flowed down the pipes into the septic tank in the backyard.

Old Wei would regularly hire villagers to clean the septic tank, since the villagers needed these things to make fertilizer anyway.

As Guan Shu pulled up his pants, he turned around and bumped into someone. A ghostly face appeared in his sight, with bulging eyes, exposed fangs, and a blood-red mouth, scaring him out of his wits.

He was trembling all over, and his teeth were chattering.

"Oh, what a coincidence?"

Old Wei had just finished a job and was in the middle of the night needing to urinate when he went out. He never expected to run into this kid in his own outhouse.

He forgot he was wearing a mask and greeted everyone warmly.

"A ghost...a ghost..." Guanshu pushed him away forcefully and ran out.

Old Master Wei stumbled from the push, but luckily the outhouse wasn't big, and the door behind him blocked the way.

"Young people are just timid," Old Wei snorted.

Guan Shu ran back to the house and calmed down, realizing he had made a mistake, since he had seen that mask just yesterday.

He huddled close to his master, arms crossed, forcing himself not to recall the memory.

But the room was drafty, and there was always a bloody smell in the air, making everything seem eerie and terrifying.

I was just starting to feel sleepy when someone knocked on the door.

Guan Shu jumped up in fright, patting his chest and complaining, "What kind of family is this? Why are they so restless at night?"

He hid behind the door and looked out. He saw a fire outside the courtyard gate and then saw Miss Wei go to open the door.

"Miss Lanxiang, come with us quickly."

Wei Lanxiang asked curiously, "What happened? Did something happen to my godfather?"

"No, no, Miss Lanxiang, it was the Taoist priest who sent us to invite you. Something has happened to the Wang family again."

Wei Lanxiang wanted to get the medicine box, but the villagers stopped her, saying, "We don't need that."

What happened to the Wang family?

"Old Woman Wang is dead."

Wei Lanxiang frowned. This old woman Wang was loud and energetic during the day, how could she have died at night?
