Chapter 30 Self-Defense Equipment
Chapter 30 Self-Defense Equipment
Chu Ci reached out and gently wiped away the tears from Shi An's eyes, comforting her in an incredibly soft voice: "Don't be afraid, I'm here with you, no one can hurt you."
Shi An clung tightly to Chu Ci like a startled fawn, her body trembling slightly.
After a while, his emotions finally calmed down.
He looked up, a trace of fear still lingering in his eyes, but even more so trust and reliance.
“I’m not so scared anymore because I have my wife here.”
A warm feeling washed over Chu Ci as she looked at Shi An tenderly, her eyes filled with concern. "It's good that you're alright."
Shi An's cheeks flushed slightly, and she smiled shyly, resting her head on Chu Ci's shoulder.
The two quietly enjoyed the tranquility and warmth of the moment, as if time had stopped flowing.
After a while, Shi An suddenly remembered something, turned around, and looked behind him.
The elderly woman who had fallen earlier had been helped up by those around her and was seated on a nearby bench to rest.
Seeing this, Shi An's worries gradually dissipated.
He led Chu Ci to the old woman and explained, "This old woman tried to save me, but was injured by those two people."
Chu Ci quickly squatted down to express her gratitude, "Thank you, Mother-in-law, for helping to save my husband."
The old woman waved her hand, "I wasn't of much help. I'm old and useless now."
Chu Ci took out some silver coins from her pocket and handed them to her mother-in-law, saying, "This is a small token of my appreciation. Please take it to see the doctor."
The mother-in-law quickly declined, saying, "No, no, it's just a minor injury, nothing serious."
Shi An also chimed in, "Grandma, please accept it. Otherwise, we'll feel bad about it."
After being persuaded by the two men, the old woman finally accepted the money and thanked them repeatedly, saying, "You are such good people. I wish you a long and happy marriage."
Chu Ci and Shi An exchanged a smile. "Thank you, Grandma."
After thanking him, Chu Ci placed the basket on the donkey and took Shi An to West Street.
Shi An asked, somewhat puzzled, "My lady, aren't we going home?"
"Okay, I won't go back yet," Chu Ci replied, her gaze fixed ahead.
Soon, the two arrived at West Street.
Chu Ci looked at the bustling street in front of her, a slight smile playing on her lips.
She turned to look at Shi An and said gently, "Let's go, I'll take you somewhere."
After saying that, she pulled Shi An along and continued walking forward.
After walking for a while, Chu Ci stopped in front of a weapon shop.
The weapon shop's signboard is very eye-catching, and all kinds of weapons are hanging at the entrance, making it look quite spectacular.
Shi An looked at the shop curiously, wondering why Chu Ci had brought her here.
Han Qi was doing accounts inside the store when he heard the sound. He looked up and saw Chu Ci. His eyes lit up, but when he saw the man next to her, the light in his eyes dimmed again.
He put down his abacus, stood up, and smiled at Chu Ci, asking, "Miss Chu, what brings you to the shop today?"
Chu Ci smiled slightly, "I want to buy some things for my family."
Han Qi nodded, then looked at Shi An behind Chu Ci and asked with a smile, "And who is this young master?"
Chu Ci quickly introduced, "This is my husband, Shi An."
Han Qi was slightly taken aback, then nodded politely.
He felt a pang of sadness; it turned out that Chu Ci's husband was such a handsome man, as if he were made of jade.
Chu Ci ignored Han Qi's reaction and went straight to her purpose, "Do you have any weapons suitable for men to use for self-defense?"
After listening, Han Qi thought for a moment and took out a small dagger from the cabinet on his right. "How about this?"
Chu Ci took the dagger, gently pulled it from its sheath, weighed it in his hand, and nodded in satisfaction after finding the weight to be just right. "Okay, is there anything else?"
Han Qi brought out some small weapons from other places, but Chu Ci was not very satisfied with them.
Han Qi said apologetically, "I'm sorry, Miss Chu, the weapons on the first floor might not meet your requirements. How about I go to the second floor to see if there are any more suitable ones?"
Chu Ci nodded in agreement.
Han Qi turned and headed towards the stairs, intending to search on the second floor.
But while going up the stairs, he wasn't paying attention and his foot suddenly slipped, causing him to lose his balance and fall backward.
Chu Ci reacted quickly, taking a step forward and catching him steadily in time.
Since there was a table right behind the stairs, if Han Qi accidentally hit his head on the corner of the table, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Moreover, this person is the man Song Zhao admires, and they might even become their neighbors in the future.
Chu Ci carefully helped Han Qi to his feet, then released his hands and asked with concern, "Are you alright?"
At this moment, Han Qi's heart was still pounding, as if it were about to jump out of his throat.
He himself was unsure whether this palpitation was due to the close call he had just experienced or because of Chu Ci's warm embrace.
"Th...thank you, I'm fine," Han Qi said softly, her face flushed.
Shi An stood quietly to the side, witnessing this thrilling scene of a hero rescuing a damsel in distress, feeling a pang of jealousy.
But on the surface, he pretended to be nonchalant and even took the initiative to step forward and ask Han Qi with concern if he had twisted his ankle.
"Young master, is your foot alright?"
"No," Han Qi replied truthfully.
"That's good. Be careful in the future, and pay extra attention when going up and down the stairs," Shi An gently instructed.
"Okay, I understand. Thank you for your concern," Han Qi said softly, his voice neither cold nor warm.
Shi An smiled and put her hands on Chu Ci's arms. "You're welcome. I shouldn't bother you so late, but I had some accidents, and my wife was concerned about me, so I came to check on my self-defense weapon. I hope you don't mind."
Han Qi paused slightly, then replied calmly, "I don't mind, all guests are welcome."
After saying that, he hurriedly went upstairs.
After a while, footsteps came down the stairs, but the person coming down was not Han Qi, but Han Qi's grandmother, Han Feng.
As soon as Han Feng saw Chu Ci, a kind and friendly smile immediately appeared on her face, and she greeted her warmly: "Oh, Chu girl is here!"
Chu Ci also greeted Han Feng with a smile: "Hello, Manager Han!"
Han Feng nodded and continued, "I heard from Han Qi that you are choosing a weapon suitable for a man's self-defense today. It should be for the young master beside you, right?"
Chu Ci readily admitted it and generously introduced, "That's right, this is my husband, named Shi An."
Upon hearing his wife's introduction, Shi An quickly bowed to Han Feng and greeted her, "Greetings, Manager Han."
Han Feng carefully looked Shi An up and down, then nodded and praised, "This young man is truly handsome and charming, and is indeed a good match for you."
