Chapter 1 Rescue
Chapter 1 Rescue
"Yun Dan, aren't you going home yet?" Her colleague's voice pulled Yun Dan back to reality from her busy work.
Yun Dan looked up, her gaze turning gently to her, a smile playing on her lips, and said softly, "I still have some finishing work to complete. You go first, and be careful on your way."
She nodded and replied, "Okay, then don't stay up too late, take care and get some rest."
After saying that, she turned and left the office, leaving Yun Dan alone to continue working hard.
Time passed quietly, and when Yun Dan looked up at the clock on the wall again, she found that it was already six o'clock.
Tomorrow is Saturday, a day she can completely relax. Thinking of this, she couldn't help but feel much lighter.
Yun Dan stretched and moved her body, which was a little stiff from sitting for a long time.
Her gaze inadvertently fell on the mirror on the table. The woman in the mirror had long hair draped over her shoulders, exquisite features, fair skin, and eyes like deep lakes, sparkling with wisdom and gentleness.
Her beauty carried a subtle, almost imperceptible coolness that inspired respect, yet also compelled one to draw closer.
As night fell and the city lights came on, the hustle and bustle of the city gradually subsided. Yun Dan finally finished her work and, dragging her tired body, began her journey home.
Her heart was filled with longing for home, and she looked forward to lying in a comfortable bed as soon as possible, enjoying that peace and tranquility.
However, fate arranged an extraordinary encounter for her on this seemingly ordinary night.
As she passed by a quiet stream, she suddenly heard a hurried but faint cry for help.
She looked in the direction of the sound and saw a child struggling desperately in the river, in a critical situation.
Without hesitation, Yun Dan quickly took off her shoes and jumped into the river to swim towards the child.
Despite the swift current, Yun Dan, with unwavering faith and tenacious perseverance, finally managed to grab the child and safely drag him to the shore.
The child was saved, but Yun Dan collapsed from exhaustion.
When she woke up, she found herself lying in an unfamiliar room. It turned out that a kind person had taken her to the hospital.
Yun Dan was extremely grateful, but she was more concerned about the child's condition.
She breathed a sigh of relief upon learning that her child had safely returned home.
I turned around and saw my bag and phone. I picked them up and realized it was almost ten o'clock.
She hurriedly prepared to leave the hospital, just then the child's parents arrived.
When they saw Yun Dan, their eyes were filled with gratitude. The child's mother held Yun Dan's hand tightly, tears welling up in her eyes: "Thank you, thank you for saving my child."
The child's father thanked her repeatedly and expressed his willingness to give Yun Dan some material reward.
Yun Dan smiled and declined their offer, saying, "It's just a small favor; anyone would have done the same in that situation."
After saying that, she turned and left, leaving behind a kind and determined silhouette.
Yun Dan returned home, opened the door, and was greeted by her parents' concerned gazes.
When she saw Mr. and Mrs. Lin in the living room, a warm feeling welled up in her heart.
"Why are you all soaked?" the mother asked anxiously.
Yundan told her parents everything that had happened that night, and they were both worried and proud after hearing it.
"You reckless child! Jumping down like that was so dangerous!" The father scolded, but also felt a pang of heartache.
“But if I don’t save him, his life might be in danger,” Yun Dan argued.
The mother looked at Yun Dan with heartache and said softly, "Alright, alright, go take a hot bath quickly, don't catch a cold."
Yun Dan stepped into the bathroom, the hot water washing over her body and warming her heart.
She thought of the child she had rescued and hoped that he would grow up safely and peacefully in the future.
After taking a shower, Yun Dan lay in bed, reflecting on the events of the evening.
She knew she had done the right thing, and although it was somewhat risky, she didn't regret it.
She believed that kindness and courage would bring her more happiness. Gradually, she drifted off to sleep, a satisfied smile still lingering on her lips.
Yun Dan slept very soundly and didn't wake up until after 10 a.m. the next day.
She felt sore all over, as if she had been crushed by something heavy.
She rubbed her eyes, sat up, and thought about the rescue she had done the night before.
"Could it be because he was injured while rescuing people last night?" Yun Dan muttered to herself.
She carefully examined her body and found no obvious wounds.
"Maybe it's because I haven't exercised in a long time, and last night when I was so anxious, I unleashed my inner potential, which led to a muscle strain," she comforted herself.
Yun Dan decided to get up and move around a bit; maybe it would make her feel better.
She got out of bed and slowly walked to the living room. Sunlight streamed in through the window, shining on her and making her feel warm and comfortable.
She saw her father sitting on the sofa making tea and watching TV, so she went over and greeted him: "Dad, good morning."
"Yes, you're up." Her father put down his teacup, looking at Yun Dan with loving eyes. "Are you feeling unwell anywhere?"
"It's alright, just a little sore," Yun Dan said truthfully, stretching her shoulders.
“In the future, when you encounter something like this, you should be more careful. It’s right to save people, but you should do it within your capabilities,” the father said earnestly.
"I know, I'll be careful." Yun Dan nodded, her heart filled with gratitude and respect for her father.
Yun Dan went into the bathroom to wash up. She came out more than ten minutes later and saw that Lin's mother had also returned from grocery shopping.
"Mom, you're back!" Yun Dan greeted her warmly.
"Hmm, how are you? Is there anything wrong with your body?" Lin's mother asked with concern.
"I'm fine, Mom."
Yun Dan glanced at the shopping basket her mother was carrying and said with a smile, "Mom, do you want beef offal noodles for lunch? I haven't had it in ages."
"Hmph... You're 29 years old and still laughing and joking all the time. When are you going to be serious?"
"She's so unreliable every day; how will she ever find a son-in-law?"
Although Lin's mother complained, her face was filled with a doting smile.
"Alright, alright, you go ahead with your work. I'll be waiting to taste your cooking later..." Yun Dan playfully stuck out her tongue, then went into the room.
As a result, Lin's father suffered, and Lin's mother gave him a thorough dressing-down.
You say your daughter is so grown up, yet you never say anything to her; she's always so irresponsible.
Lin's father could only listen to Lin's mother's "nagging" with a bitter expression, nodding in agreement from time to time.
After lunch, Yundan took a nap. When she woke up and checked the time, it was already past three in the afternoon.
She felt much better, and her mood improved significantly.
The afternoons are leisurely and long, and it seems there's no better way to pass the time than immersing oneself in the fantastical world of a movie or the dramatic plot of a novel.
Yun Dan stepped out of her room, only to find the living room empty. It seemed that Lin's parents had gone out to find their own fun—playing mahjong.
She couldn't help but mutter to herself, "He's out playing mahjong again. He's so bored all the time."
I always think to myself that when I'm at work I look forward to having a good rest, but when the day off actually comes, I feel like I have nothing to do and I'm a little bored.
So, Yun Dan decided to go to the supermarket, hoping to find something new.
Back in her room, she changed into comfortable clothes, picked up her phone and keys, and headed out the door.
After going downstairs, I pushed open the door and walked about fifty meters along the left side of the road, and then I came to the crossroads.
She stood at the intersection patiently waiting for the red light, pondering what she needed to buy.
However, just as I was about to step across the road, an out-of-control truck, like a wild horse, rushed straight toward me.
Yun Dan stared wide-eyed at the approaching truck in terror, a strong will to survive welling up inside her.
However, having exhausted her physical strength to save people last night, her legs now felt as heavy as lead and were completely unresponsive.
Lin Yundan could only watch helplessly as the large truck drew closer and closer...
With a loud 'bang', Yun Dan was sent flying more than ten meters away.
As Yun Dan was suspended in mid-air, she was still thinking, "Did I go through all this trouble just to be bumped into by you? Mom and Dad, your daughter..."
After hitting Yun Dan, the truck did not stop but continued to rush forward until it crashed into a stone pillar and a large tree on the side of the road, finally coming to a stop under the force of a wall.
The pedestrians around were stunned by the sudden turn of events. When they came to their senses, they all rushed over to check what had happened.
Someone called 120 for an ambulance, someone called 110 for the police, and someone called 119 for the fire department. The scene quickly became incredibly noisy, resembling a bustling market.
However, amidst this chaos, a thick fog floated quietly in the air, silently observing everything.
It could only watch helplessly, unable to do anything about it.
Soon, police, doctors, and firefighters arrived at the scene.
The police began questioning about what had happened, while the doctor was busy examining Yun Dan's injuries.
However, after some effort, the doctor shook his head helplessly and told the police that she had no vital signs.
The police began asking passersby if anyone knew Yun Dan. After searching for a while, they finally found someone from the same neighborhood who knew her.
He helped contact Yun Dan's parents.
When Mr. and Mrs. Lin arrived at the scene, they saw this scene before them. Mr. Lin burst into tears, while Mrs. Lin collapsed to the ground.
They couldn't accept this cruel reality; their daughter had left them forever.
Yun Dan's younger brother rushed back after receiving the notification. The moment he saw his sister, he burst into tears.
Meanwhile, the family of the child whom Yun Dan rescued last night also heard the news.
They rushed to the scene, only to be confronted with the cruel reality that in less than twenty hours, they were separated by death.
And what about our protagonist? He just kept drifting, watching the whole thing unfold, but he was powerless to do anything, and could only weep, but nothing could come out.
Time flies, and it's already the seventh day after her death. On this day, she felt a mysterious force pulling at me, making it impossible for her to remain in this world any longer.
Yun Dan could only watch from the air as her family and her child's family wept bitterly, and she could only float upwards while watching them.
In her final moments before leaving this world, Lin Yundan cried out, "Dad, Mom, Brother, you must live well. Your daughter is going first."
Her voice echoed in the air, but it could no longer reach their hearts.
