Chapter 1088 - 1059: Between Crime and Punishment (Part 1)
"If I hadn’t met Xia Xue, maybe everything would have gone smoothly, but there’s no if." Avoiding the latter part of the question, Xiao Lin was reluctant to think more about it, yet a question appeared in his mind: in his memory, this woman never existed. Is this his problem or hers?
"I can only take you this far; the rest is beyond my scope. Follow this path to the end, and there’s a private villa where Robert lives. To the east is one of his bases; your men should have gone in that direction. It’s your choice what to pick." Murong Lengyue tossed a package out of the sports car and left without looking back.
Xiao Lin smiled brilliantly at the exhaust smoke left by the car. Besides the connection his old man established, this woman was actually quite adorable. She didn’t have any spoiled princess tantrums and knew how to properly assess situations, handling matters with perfect precision. No wonder the Murong Family stood firm; it wasn’t without reason.
He shook the package, and it made a metallic clashing sound. Without looking, it was clear they were weapons and equipment. It’s really considerate to think of everything.
To the east was one of Robert’s bases, straight ahead was Robert’s residence. In front of him lay two paths; behind was the road he came from, and to the right was a large plantation. If you looked closely, in the large field, there was a small plot growing different crops. It seemed Robert indeed wanted to ascend to power, growing poppies by himself, which was illegal. Hidden under tall plants, it was hard to discover, but now wasn’t the right time. The blooming flowers were too vibrant, unable to hide the spring colors.
He was already twenty minutes past the agreed time and hadn’t received any call. Murong Lengyue’s information was indeed more accurate; otherwise, he would certainly have received a call from Yelu Shou at the hotel, asking questions. Hesitating for a moment, Xiao Lin dialed the number. After two rings, the other party hung up. He slung his bag and headed toward the path in front of him.
A journey of more than twenty minutes was already a long stretch at Xiao Lin’s pace. He couldn’t help cursing Murong Lengyue’s stinginess—driving in a bit more wouldn’t have mattered. It was uncertain if this Robert was too confident in himself or believed he was an emperor; he was already close, yet there was no sign of any surveillance. The residence off the main road was indeed well hidden; passing by the main road outside, one wouldn’t expect such a large mansion here.
Hiding in the bushes, after sending out a signal, Xiao Lin turned off his phone. With the plan changing unexpectedly, he had to think about how to deal with Robert. This was a big fish; able to gather several remnants of gangs in the suburbs and consolidate them into his line, he certainly held more than just drug routes. Assuming his deduction was correct, then the people behind Robert were the Wang Family, the people behind the Wang Family were Shao Weihua. This person hadn’t shown any activity recently. According to the message from Brother Luo, it seemed the central area was in a tumultuous state, everything was at a standstill, and the commander named Quan seemed too busy to manage Shao Weihua. Thus, Mu Rongyun was more likely to connect with Shao Weihua than Commander Quan.
Obviously, the bar attack was orchestrated by Uncle Si. If Shao Weihua was waiting for Commander Quan’s next instruction, Mu Rongyun’s action was understandable. In the blink of an eye, Xiao Lin had reached three to four meters from the luxurious villa, emerging from the woods. There were two towers hidden in the trees, one on each side. But they appeared more like sentries observing the plantations on both sides. There were no walls around the villa, but security facilities like surveillance cameras were complete, and there were no guards at the entrance. As for the internal structure, one could only understand it thoroughly after entering.
After selecting a few handy weapons from the backpack, mostly cold weapons, Murong Lengyue indeed understood him well. Yet the short spikes by Shou Manufacturing suited him better; only the middle standard line was already halfway over, which was a shame.
A small, sleek handgun in the backpack caught his eye, swiftly pocketed it. A piece of white paper at the bottom also caught his sight, with a drawn, somewhat difficult-to-understand route, it was likely a floor plan of the villa’s interior. The non-professional symbols made Xiao Lin chuckle slightly; turns out there were things the young lady wasn’t adept at, even though she was supposedly omnipotent.
Once all the equipment was arranged properly, Xiao Lin crouched and reached the back of the villa. The sunset had begun descending, casting an orange hue beautifully over the lush vegetation. The sky’s blue, under the orange light, folded into various layers of clouds, painting the sky with vibrant colors. Behind the villa were rows of almost two-meter-high beds. The design of colorful glass and wooden-lined window sashes slightly resembled the grand churches of medieval Central Europe. Trying to push inward, the windows stood still; he circled around once, finally returning to the front.
The sunset faded quickly, and in a blink, the beautiful clouds were gradually replaced by dusk. The lights on the wall lit up, and at this moment, two black sedans slowly drove up the straight road. As Xiao Lin’s form extended out, he crouched down immediately, hiding among the plants.
The cars stopped at the villa’s entrance, a few people emerged from the vehicles and entered the villa directly; the cars then left in the original direction. One of the individuals glanced towards Xiao Lin’s hiding place before following the others into the villa.
The opulent interior decoration contrasted sharply with the stringent bodyguards, creating an incongruous scene. The man descending the staircase greeted those who entered from outside with a smile. He strode forward and shook hands with one among them. "I’m delighted to accept your invitation, Mr. Su."
"No need to be so polite, Robert," the man in the center responded in somewhat broken English. His dark skin framed eyes that seemed perpetually half-open. "I don’t have much time, let’s get to the point."
"Of course, please follow me upstairs. Mr. Wang has been waiting for quite some time." Robert made way for this Mr. Su to go up, suddenly halting. "However, these few might have to rest in the side hall; Mr. Wang isn’t fond of crowds."
Mr. Su glanced at Robert. "You come up with me!" He pointed at one of the people.
Robert raised an eyebrow; earlier, he seemed to say he could only go up alone. Was his English not standard enough, or was this gentleman’s English ability lacking? "Mr. Robert, is there a problem with that?" Watching his insistence, Robert couldn’t help displaying a look of difficulty. (To be continued.
