Chapter 217: Harboring Ill Intentions
Chapter 217: Harboring Ill Intentions
Henry Fairchild recounted everything he saw in detail.
As Seraphina Caldwell listened, she started to catch the main point.
Lorelei did not want to see Evan Orwell.
But as long as Seraphina appeared outside, Lorelei would definitely come out.
"Let’s put it this way, Lorelei would only show herself for me. We shouldn’t force our way in; let’s wait outside the tribe for her to come to me. She won’t bring too many people, at most her five companions."
Evan Orwell didn’t understand why his mother refused him at the door.
Nevertheless, he still didn’t want Seraphina to be the bait.
"No way, it’s too dangerous, you can’t go, let’s think of another plan."
Henry Fairchild remained silent.
"Stop arguing, let’s all go together and adapt to the situation when we get there."
Dylan Sullivan understood what he meant.
He grabbed Seraphina Caldwell, who stumbled but was quickly steadied.
The two of them almost jogged forward.
The other members followed closely behind, striding uniformly straight toward the Rydell Tribe.
As soon as they reached the tribe gate, the guards immediately recognized Evan Orwell.
"You don’t need to go further; we won’t let you in here."
Originally, Seraphina was hiding behind Dylan, with her head down, not speaking.
"Go and report that Seraphina Caldwell has arrived and is waiting outside for Lorelei."
Upon hearing the name, the guard’s expression changed dramatically.
They waited quietly.
Sure enough, as soon as Lorelei heard Evan was here, whatever; even Seraphina was outside, she was furious on the spot.
When the figures appeared on that side, Dylan immediately pulled Seraphina back.
Henry stealthily moved closer to Evan, standing nearby.
Seeing Evan, Lorelei’s eyes instantly reddened.
Ignis quickly grabbed her and whispered firmly in her ear.
"Don’t act impulsively! That snake and that eagle are Blue Rank Beastmen, you can’t afford to provoke them!"
Lorelei stared wide-eyed at Ignis, her voice trembling.
"What did you just say?"
She softened entirely, leaned on Ignis’s shoulder, and tears streamed down.
The surroundings fell so silent that only her sobbing could be heard.
After crying for a while, she wiped her face, using her hand back to remove the leftover tears at the corners of her eyes, her tone instantly shifted.
"Evan, do you understand what’s going on? Why doesn’t she see you, do you have no clue? I feel embarrassed for you! She treats you this way, yet you still run back eagerly? What’s this act now?"
Evan hurriedly waved his hands.
"Mom, it’s not what you think! It’s truly not her fault, we now have a way to repair the Beast Crystal, it’s true! The healer has examined the shards, confirmed the cracks can be reversed, just need to infuse the right blood essence."
Lorelei raised an eyebrow, her expression showing no hint of joy.
"Oh? Can it really be repaired? Tell me, how will you fix it?"
Her voice was steady, but her gaze was already fixated on Seraphina.
"Hmm!"
Evan nodded vigorously.
"But we need your help. If it weren’t for Seraphina, I’d never touch the Beast Crystal again in my lifetime! Don’t blame her, it’s truly not her fault!"
Lorelei’s eyes turned, she immediately started scheming.
The opportunity had arrived.
With no movement for so long, the outside world already considered her forces weakened.
If she could use this chance to regroup manpower under the guise of repair and control core bloodlines, perhaps she could turn things around.
She immediately put on a guilty face, turned to Seraphina.
"Oh dear, was mom blind and wrongly accused you? Was too impulsive earlier, did I hurt you? Let mom check, any scars remaining? I’ve got the most effective scar balm, definitely won’t leave marks with it."
Seraphina looked at her pretentious demeanor and was as clear as a bell inside.
This woman had no good intentions, apologizing?
No way she’d believe it.
But there’s no use confront her now; first get the drop of blood Evan needed.
So she relaxed her grip, stepped forward, and took Evan’s hand proactively.
"Mom, I understand, you did it for Evan’s sake, vented anger at me in a moment, I won’t mind."
Lorelei sauntered forward, her companions followed closely, their eyes wary.
"Oh, I just knew you were a sensible child, able to understand mom’s concern."
"Since we’ve cleared everything, why don’t we go back to the tribe together? The wind is strong outside, chat as we walk, much more comfortable."
Evan’s heart skipped a beat.
Mom couldn’t possibly trust them so easily.
She wanted to deceive us into going back.
"Mom, we can’t go into the tribe now. To restore the Beast Crystal, we need you to give a drop of blood. Once we have the blood, I must immediately go to the healer; he’s still waiting for me. Once it’s done, I’ll bring everyone back to reunite."
Lorelei’s eyes flashed sharply upon hearing the request for blood.
She immediately stepped forward, grabbed Seraphina and Evan’s hands.
"Really? Then what else can mom say! Don’t just a drop, even ten or eight drops, I’d give!"
After speaking, she turned to stand by Ignis.
Taking from him a coarse stone bowl, and a well-polished bone knife.
She handed the bowl to Seraphina.
"Hold this well, you tell how much you need, I’ll give that amount."
The moment Seraphina took the bowl, her fingertips slightly tightened.
Evan was stunned by how quickly mom agreed.
He felt even more uneasy, instinctively leaning closer to Seraphina.
An indescribable unease spread through his chest cavity.
Lorelei slashed her finger, letting blood drop into the bowl.
Her gaze cornering at Seraphina, seeing her attention fully on the blood.
Suddenly grasping the knife handle tightly, she reversed it straight at Seraphina’s chest!
Evan reacted incredibly fast, almost instinctively yanked Seraphina, simultaneously turning to protect her closely behind him.
Seraphina was directly pushed, falling backward, nearly hitting the ground.
Dylan and Wyatt Yardley rushed forward evenly, each side supporting her.
Just as the blade was about to stab Evan, Henry who hadn’t stopped watching him, fiercely tackled him out of the way.
With a thud, the blade plunged straight into Henry’s chest.
Henry’s body jerked violently, a short muffled grunt from his throat.
At the moment Seraphina was supported, a buzz overtook her head, her vision went dark.
"Henry!"
Evan regained his senses, hurriedly embraced the weakening Henry, glaring at Lorelei with changed eyes.
His own mother...
Had been targeting Seraphina all along.
Seraphina couldn’t calm down, among beasts, the male’s action would be countered by the female, but she was different.
She directly transformed on the spot, pinning Lorelei to the ground.
Claws pressed on the other’s chest, ruthlessly bearing down.
Ignis and a few others just wanted to rush over to help.
Yet before approaching, blocked entirely by Dylan and Evan.
Ignis particularly was helplessly pinned down by Dylan, unable to move.
The exchange of fists and feet quickly fell behind.
People from the tribe sensed the trouble outside.
But with the leader held captive, none dared act rashly, only watched from afar.
Lorelei looked fearfully at Seraphina, unable to believe she could transform into beast shape.
"Evan! Don’t you want to know where your father went?!"
Lorelei screamed.
Evan froze, his body instantly stiffening.
His gaze lingered on Lorelei’s face, realizing indeed hadn’t seen traces of the father from then until now.
"Let her go! Just spare me, I’ll tell you! I will say! I beg you! I’ll really say! Stop forcing me!"
Evan looked down at the feeble Henry in his arms.
Henry’s hand was clutching his clothes tightly.
He then slowly raised his head, turning to his mother Lorelei.
Once again... apologizing to Seraphina.
