Chapter 124 Shh, don't disturb my fishing

Bai Heming put the small firework in his hand into his pocket, and then he and Li Hengzhi leaped into the air. The two disappeared without a trace in the forest after a few leaps.

After watching the two leave, Lin Feiran turned to look at Mu Qing, who was fishing, and smiled slightly, saying with emotion, "I didn't expect to encounter such a big thing this time."

Mu Qing snorted coldly, her tone full of disdain, "There are always people who want to cause trouble. Don't they get tired of it?"

"If we can truly find the Seven Star Stones, I'm afraid people will still flock to it no matter how tiring it may be. I hope you two young friends will find something of value on this trip." Lin Feiran stood up and walked to Mu Qing's side.

"Shh, don't disturb my fish." Mu Qing noticed Lin Feiran's actions and quickly whispered to him.

---------------

Bai Heming and Li Hengzhi went straight to the place Lin Feiran had mentioned without any delay. This mountain was a side peak of Qingri Peak, hidden among the towering mountains due to its low altitude, making it difficult to be discovered.

If Lin Feiran hadn't noticed the vegetation distribution on the mountain peak, they probably would have overlooked this remote peak.

Li Bai and his companion went directly to the north side of the side peak. Because the sunlight was blocked by other mountains, a large shadow was cast on the ground on the north side.

The ground surface on the north side, shrouded in shadow, looked no different, but the moment the two left the sunlight and stepped into the shadow, Bai Heming felt as if a cold aura permeated the air.

"Hengzhi, something's not right here." Bai Heming quickly approached Li Hengzhi, cautiously observing the surroundings.

Li Hengzhi then took the initiative to stand in front of Bai Heming, and drew his long sword, holding it tightly in his hand in case of emergency.

The further north they went, the more they felt the temperature plummet in the shadows. A chill gradually seeped into Bai Heming's bones, and his body involuntarily shivered, as if cold fingers had touched the depths of his soul.

Li Hengzhi noticed a slight change in Bai Heming's expression and asked in a low voice, "What's wrong?"

Bai Heming placed his icy hand into Li Hengzhi's hand. After feeling Li Hengzhi's warm body temperature, he asked with some doubt, "Don't you feel cold all of a sudden?"

Li Hengzhi was somewhat surprised by the coolness of Bai Heming's hands. He held Bai Heming's hands tightly, trying to warm them with his body heat.

"I don't feel cold, but I feel like something is watching us." Li Hengzhi narrowed his eyes. He could feel as if there was an invisible eye in the shadows watching their every move.

Upon hearing Li Hengzhi's reply, Bai Heming frowned slightly. The two were in the same place yet felt differently, which immediately reminded Bai Heming of some of the points made in Gu Yan's letter.

"Hengzhi, do you think we might have encountered an illusion too?"

After pondering for a moment, Li Hengzhi shook his head. "It's unlikely. We decided to come here on short notice. Could the mysterious person have foreseen our arrival and set up the illusion in advance?"

"Moreover, if it really is an illusion, it can also prove that we have found the right place."

Bai Heming nodded in agreement, took out the small firework Mu Qing had thrown at him from his pocket, raised an eyebrow and smiled, "If it really is an illusion, we're not afraid, we can blow it up."

The two stood there talking for a while before Bai Heming felt his body relax and his body was no longer as cold and stiff as before.

"Let's go and take another look ahead," Bai Heming suggested.

"Okay, be sure to tell me immediately if you feel unwell." Li Heng looked Bai Heming up and down, and seeing that his complexion had returned to normal, he still couldn't help but remind him.

The two walked about a hundred paces further ahead, and four or five cave entrances appeared in front of them.

These caves vary in size and shape, and some cannot even be called caves.

"Shall we go in?" Li Hengzhi turned around and asked with a somewhat solemn expression.

Because he could increasingly sense that the invisible eyes were hidden in these caves.

“Yes, we’ve come this far, of course we should go in.” Bai Heming answered without hesitation, a determined glint in his eyes.

The two finally chose the largest cave. Inside, it was dark and damp, filled with a musty smell. The walls were covered in moss, and the ground was piled with weeds and fallen leaves, suggesting it hadn't been visited in a long time.

“It looks like no one has been here for a long time.” Li Hengzhi frowned.

"Wait a minute, look at these leaves, they seem to have been crushed." Bai Heming looked around, and even reached out to pick up a larger, more intact withered leaf from the ground.

As soon as he bent down, he noticed out of the corner of his eye that a dark shadow was rushing towards him.

Bai Heming dodged with the ease of the movement, only to see the dark figure swiftly flash past to the side. It intended to slip into the crack in the wall, but unexpectedly, a flash of silver light appeared, and Li Hengzhi's longsword was even faster, directly slicing the dark figure down.

"It's a snake. Looks like we need to be careful." Bai Heming looked at the snake's body, which had been split in two by Li Hengzhi, and then looked around at everything.

The two continued deeper into the cave, and the more they went, the stronger the foul odor became. Suddenly, they heard a faint sound, as if someone was whispering.

"There's a sound, did you hear it?" Li Hengzhi stopped and asked alertly.

Bai Heming hummed in response and lowered his breath, listening carefully, but the sound seemed to have disappeared again.

Li Hengzhi and Bai Heming exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with doubt and unease. They cautiously looked around as they slowly approached the source of the sound.

Li Hengzhi walked at the front, gripping his sword tightly and scanning the dark corners around him warily.

“We should be careful; this cave looks strange,” Bai Heming said, following closely behind Li Hengzhi.

The two walked quietly forward, and after walking a short distance, the view suddenly opened up before them.

Deep inside the cave, they discovered a spacious area. Li Bai and his companion walked along the edge into the clearing, only to find some broken bones scattered in a corner.

“These bones include both human and animal bones. It seems they were left by someone or an animal that accidentally wandered in.” Li Hengzhi briefly examined the bones scattered on the ground. Just as he finished speaking, he felt Bai Heming tugging at his sleeve.

"Look at the middle." Bai Heming raised his head, gesturing for Li Hengzhi to look up.

Li Hengzhi looked up and was shocked to find a huge stone pillar standing in the center of the open space, with a lifelike giant python carved on it.

"Doesn't it look like an altar?" Bai Heming asked, his gaze fixed intently on the stone pillar, as he voiced his suspicions.

“But…” Li Hengzhi looked around the stone pillar but did not find any other statues or items related to the ritual.

"If this is truly a place of worship, why is there only one pillar?" Li Hengzhi felt that this stone pillar was somewhat out of place with its surroundings.

Li Bai and Bai Heming walked to the stone pillar and circled it briefly. However, just as they were about to turn back after finding nothing, Bai Heming's gaze fell on the snake head carved on the pillar. The snake head was pointing towards a dimly lit corner, where a hidden stone door emitted a faint light.

"Hengzhi, look there!" Bai Heming pointed excitedly at the stone gate, and the two walked towards it without prior arrangement.

As a result, the two had only taken a few steps when Li Hengzhi heard a hissing sound behind him.

He quickly turned around and looked back, only to see that not far behind them, countless venomous snakes had gathered, their bodies upright, hissing at them.

"Have we stumbled into a snake pit?" Bai Heming also drew a short sword from his waist. The two fought back to back, cautiously watching the surrounding snakes.

"These snakes don't look very friendly," Li Hengzhi said calmly, shifting his body slightly to the side, ready to deal with any sudden attack from the venomous snakes.

Bai Heming nodded, a hint of fighting spirit flashing in his eyes. "Be careful. These snakes may look ordinary, but if any of them are highly venomous, we'll be in trouble."

The two were of one mind and moved a few steps slowly in the direction of the stone gate.

These few steps caused the snakes that had been lingering in the distance to become agitated, with several even charging directly at the two. Li Hengzhi swiftly wielded his longsword, slicing the attacking snakes in two.

Upon seeing this, the two immediately stopped in their tracks, and the snakes ceased their rash attacks.

"It seems these snakes are preventing us from getting closer to the stone gate," Bai Heming said softly.

"I wonder what's behind this door. They actually thought of having a bunch of snakes guard it." Li Hengzhi flicked the blood off his sword, feeling somewhat curious about what was behind the stone door.

"In that case, let's go in and find out what's going on." Bai Heming smiled and the two of them ran towards the stone gate again.
